The input is material the land and other industries have already produced. Mycelium gives it structure.
Grybas is the Lithuanian word for mushroom. The company is in Costa Rica. We grow ecological materials from mushroom mycelium.
Packaging, interiors, and everyday objects still depend on materials that are extracted once and discarded for good. Grybas studies a different production path: grow the material from mycelium and agricultural residues, use it, and let it rejoin the soil.
The practice sits between biotechnology and ecological design. It is for companies that need to leave plastic foam, and for designers who want the life cycle to be visible in the object.
Grybas was founded by Sofía Ulloa Arias. The public work is research and development of ecological products, circular economy, and ecological design. In 2023, Grybas presented mushroom bioconversion at the Falling Walls Science Summit in Berlin.
We keep the website specific. Samples, densities, and fit for a product are discussed directly, not implied by a badge we have not earned.
The input is material the land and other industries have already produced. Mycelium gives it structure.
A grown material is not automatically virtuous in every use. We design toward composting and say so when an application is a poor fit.
